Not that I’d tell you what to do, but you should probably read this.
Geek Melange is the space where I post my opinions and the things I find interesting. Comments posted reflect the opinions of their authors. I write what I believe and my opinions reflect those beliefs. I write passionately, express myself as I please and run this site as I see fit. How others feel about this isn’t my problem. Feel free to disagree with me if you like, but be aware that I don’t take kindly to attempts to dictate what I should write about and how I should run this site.
As the title of this site suggests, the majority of what I write about has to do with nerd interests, geek culture and fandom, although I’m certainly not limited to those topics. To get a better idea of what I write about, you can read the introduction to this site.
If there’s one thing that all nerds and geeks have in common, it’s that we don’t hold back our opinions when it comes to our favorite fandom or area of expertise. While it can make for some exciting and dynamic exchanges of ideas, it can also unfortunately lead to uncomfortable situations. I’d like to encourage the former and avoid the latter.
Please comment if a post interests you, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the content, but this site is also meant to be a safe space for discussions and debates. So before you comment, be aware that there are a few House Rules.
I reserve the right to delete all comments, and to moderate all comment threads, as I see fit. I may or may not give warning if your comments are in danger of violating House Rules.
Things that tend to make me cranky and will likely result in your comment being moderated or deleted: personal attacks or threats toward another commenter(s); attempts at derailing the entry topic; or posting more than a “fair use” amount of someone else’s copyrighted work unless you’ve been given express permission by the author (this is also known as “stealing” – I’m a writer and this makes me extra cranky so don’t do it). Be aware that if I have to break out my Derailing of Dummies Bingo Card, your comment’s likely heading for the trash bin.
Given that I tend to write about topics touching on feminism, intersectionality and social justice, this is a big one folks, so please take note: Comments containing phobic content of any kind (based on race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, etc.,) are absolutely positively UNACCEPTABLE. Neither is obvious trollage. Or spam. But phobic content makes me really, really angry. And you wouldn’t like me… when I’m angry… All of the above will be immediately HULK SMASHED!! End of story.
All other comments will be left posted as is. Comments will not be deleted unless found in violation of the House Rules. So make sure to proofread, check your links, and if you’re not sure if you want your words floating around the internet for all eternity, might be best not to post them.
Feel free to ask questions and be challenging, but be aware that I do respond to both tone and content. I won’t be rude off the bat, but if that’s where you’re starting from, it’s not going to end well.
Generally speaking, I’d prefer to be inquisitive scientist Bruce Banner than the Hulk and if everyone sticks to following “Wheaton’s Law,” we’ll all get along just fine.
