This month has been a blur but ready or not, WisCon 43 is happening this weekend (May 24-28)! I’m looking forward to returning to Madison, WI, for my fifth (!!) time visiting this convention. It’s a little bittersweet as well, as it was during my very first WisCon in 2014 that I received the offer from Lynne and Michael Thomas to become Uncanny Magazine‘s first Managing Editor (and later also Nonfiction Editor), and I’ll be saying goodbye to the magazine at the end of this year.
I made it a point to have a light (for me) schedule at the convention this year, so hopefully I’ll have much more time to socialize and catch up with my friends and colleagues, many of whom I only get to see at WisCon.
On Friday, May 24, I’m excited for Uncanny’s Space Unicorn Party, which runs from 8:45-11:30pm in Room 627. I’ll be joined by Uncanny‘s Assistant Editor Chimedum Ohaegbu, who will be taking over for me next year as Managing Editor. We’ll have snacks, sparkling fruit punch, and of course, the now-famous ube unicorn cakes courtesy of Jennivee’s Bakery. Come raise a toast with me to celebrate what’s been an amazing and wonderful journey as part of Uncanny, and to welcome Chimie, who I know will be a phenomenal successor.
I’m also scheduled for two panels on Saturday, May 25:
- 1-2:15pm: I Loved This Book, What Happened???, Assembly
- 4-5:15pm: THE FANFIC OF THE FOURTH INSTALLMENT OF THE MOVIE REVIVAL OF THE ACCLAIMED MUSICAL OF THE NOT ANOTHER F*CKING RACE PANEL, Wisconsin
See you this weekend, WisCon!
