Upcoming Appearances: September 18-24, 2017

It’s going to be a busy week! I’ve got 2 upcoming appearances in Chicago:

Thursday, September 21, 2017, 8:30pm, FREE
The Hungry Brain, 2319 W. Belmont, Chicago, IL
The Therapy Sessions
hosted by Seth Vanek, with Jess McIntosh and Michi Trota

Therapy Sessions is where Chicagoans of taste and distinction gather to talk about grown-up shit. Part talent showcase, part interview program, part confession booth, the show describes itself as a “talk show about feelings.” Each week a singer, a talker, and a listener take to the Hungry Brain couch to unpack, unburden, and unwind, under the guidance of “Chicago’s Favorite Fake Therapist” and highbrow lowlife Seth Vanek. Providing moral support and prescribing medicine when needed is Alcohol Distribution Specialist Dan. Thursdays at 8:30.

September’s Theme Is: WORK

Our guests for Thursday, September 21 are:
Singer: Jess McIntosh (Jess McIntosh Band)
Talker: Michi Trota (Geek MelangeUncanny MagazineChicago Nerd Social Club)

Sunday, September 24, 2017, 11am-6pm, $20
Kultura Festival at the Logan Square Emporium Arcade Bar, 2363 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL
Lechon Lecture Series: “Food & Worldbuilding in Science Fiction & Fantasy” 1-2pm
with Maia Mrkvicka, Nicasio Reed, and Michi Trota

Food can often be an overlooked aspect in storytelling, but food is a grounding element of culture and identity. How characters relate to food can tell us where they come from, who they are, how their communities are built, and how societies function. This panel of Filipinx science fiction & fantasy creators will discuss how some of their favorite genre works use food as part of storytelling, as well as talk about how they integrate food and Filipinx identity into their own work.

About Kultura Festival: Kultural is a modern Filipino American food and arts festival in Chicago presenting Filipino American chefs, artists, musicians, and cultural workers.

Carefully curated to appeal to both those who personally identify with Filipino culture and the merely curious or uninitiated, Kultura Festival aims to highlight the best in modern Filipino-American food and arts in Chicago and the Midwest. October is Filipino American History Month — join us as we kick it off in style!

Hope to see you at one or both of these events!
